Prices, Options, & Licensing

Prices depend on a huge number of variables and the only way to be certain of a price is to call or email me with your requirements. If what you want is just a 154CM blade and a Micarta handle, then it’s pretty easy. If you want something fancy, it might depend on what I have on hand or can get in a reasonable period of time. I maintain a large inventory of fancy woods, mostly stabilized, some bone and ivory, and other odds and ends, so I can usually hook you up with a very nice handle and quote a reasonable price.

I welcome emails and calls for exact pricing. For all custom orders, when you call I will quote you a price and an estimated time for completion. When the knife is done, I will phone or email you that it’s ready, and ask you to mail a check. If you sound rich, I’ll ship the knife right away; if not, I’ll probably ship it anyway.

The Options:

I have a few limitations on options, but have strong preferences in the materials which I believe make the best knives:

Steels: 154/CM, CPM-3V, S30V & Stainless Damascus

154CM is a high quality cutlery stainless steel which is more than sufficient for all but the most demanding needs.

S30V is a new high impact stainless steel which is tougher than almost all other high alloy knife steels, save one...

CPM-3V, that one, is the highest quality knife steel made. It takes an amazing edge and will withstand abuse that would destroy lesser steels.

All my steels are made by Crucible Steel, a company which has a dedicated effort to provide the best knife steels on the planet. To the best of my knowledge they are the only steel company to develop high performance steels specifically for high performance knife blades. The balance of corrosion resistance, impact resistance, and wear resistance they have achieved with S30V is nothing short of amazing, and has earned the respect of all who shape tough blades from high alloy steels.

Handle Materials: Micarta, Fancy Stabilized Woods, Exotic Woods,  Fossil Ivory, Ivory, Bone, etc...

Bolsters: 416 Stainless Steel.

Serration’s: Available on most knives, but not recommended on some.

Sheaths: Included with most knives.. All my leather sheaths are made by master leathersmith, Martin Morrissey. Concealex sheaths and carry rigs are made for me by Rob Humelbaugh of Survival Sheath Systems. All Concealex sheaths incorporate TekLok attachment for multi-carry needs.

Due to a very large backlog of current orders, I have discontinued accepting new orders until sometime late in 2005.

Thanks for your understanding...

Yuppie Camo, blade character for a using knife. Yuppie Camo is a hard, deep-etched finish that resists scratching while providing the blade with the appealing appearance of low layer count damascus. The finish is available on all knives as an option at $100.

A Word About Licensing...

All of my designs are available for licensing, most offering easy modification to accommodate existing production machinery or automated processes. Having spent many years in industry, I have some awareness of manufacturing processes and limitations, and can work with a manufacturer to achieve most of the design goals of these custom knives in factory-produced blades.

In addition to the knives shown on this site, a wide array of other designs have been created and tested, some useful, some more artistic than functional, some in categories like kitchen knives and folders for which I’m not well known. In all cases my designs have sought to provide a powerful aesthetic appeal coupled with intuitive and demonstrable utility, the hallmarks of nearly all successful knives.

Combining strong and effective designs with the pent up demand for custom knives which are either not available or above the price range of many potential buyers, an immediate opportunity is available to any company wanting to expand its presence in a crowded market that is now experiencing price erosion due to imports and the absence of a single powerful presence in fixed blade knives.
