Hunting Knives

Hunting Knives are important  to me. Having hunted all my life I understand the demands placed on a hunter, and I make mine to measure up. There are several different models in this line, and unlimited variations of each. Most are drop-points, though I make a clip-point that achieves the same end with a different look. I also make some straight-points, but I grind these the same as if the point were dropped (i.e. The grind line is angled up so the apex remains on the point.)  The smaller Bird & Trout knife is catching on quickly as well, as is the Bronco Camper.

Here is a Westerner Model, with a 5-1/4 inch ATS-34 blade, Box Elder Burl handle and engraved bolsters. Westerners run from 4 to 6 inches in the blade, and are great knives for BIG game. Shown here is my favorite blade shape for field use; note there’s a lot of belly for efficiently skinning larger animals. Prices range from $275 & up. Knife shown is $300 without the engraving.

Shown here sporting a 4 inch Devin Thomas Stainless Damascus Blade, and Black Ash Burl Handle is the Easterner Model. With blade sizes ranging from 3 to 4-1/2 inches, this traditional drop point hunter is the perfect Whitetail knife. Prices range from $250 & up. Model shown is $435. (photo by Terrill Hoffman)

Another award winner is the Bird & Trout model. With a 2 to 2-1/2 inch blade shaped much like a scalpel, this knife is one you can carry almost anywhere to do almost anything, and might be the handiest little knife you’ve ever had in you hand. Here with a stabilized Maple burl handle, prices range from $165 & up. This particular knife is $195. The incorporated leg notch adds $20 and a lot of character.

The Utility Hunter is a great all around knife.  The leaf shaped handle is deceptively comfortable in the hand and with blade sizes ranging from 2 to 3-1/2” the Utility Hunter is good for most any field task, whether hunting upland, big game or on a lazy float down some trout-infested river. Prices range from $235 & up. Knife shown is $475 with Stainless Damascus blade and Mammoth Bark Ivory handle.

The Bronco, designed by Bill Hall (aka Bronco on the forums). In 154CM, the 9-1/2” blade features a unique combination of wide convex edge for efficient wood chopping below a deep hollow grind to remove weight. The total weight is just 18 oz. in a knife that chops through dried wood faster than anything I’ve handled. The handle here is Lignum Vitae with mosaic pins and thong hole liner. On the butt is a checkered hammer surface for driving tent pegs or most anything else. The price is $550 in CPM-3V or $450 in 154CM. (photo by Terrill Hoffman)
